Wing Panel Components
Wood frame made from sugar pine or equivalent wood.
Wood frame is made up of 7 pieces, cut and angled to make up frame.
COC purchases wing frames from carpentry contractor assembled.
COC Engineering Data – TDU-10/B AERIAL TOW TARGET
Wing Panel Assembly
2 wood frames are placed onto assembly table, nose to tail.
Frames are stuffed with paper honeycomb.
Aluminum skin is rolled out, one sheet on bottom of frames, one on top.
Wing Panel Assembly
Brisk Heat blankets will be placed on bottom of assy table.
The Vac Bag sheet will come next; a sheet we fold over.
Put down sheet of aluminum foil (on roll). Apply epoxy adhesive.
Place 2 wing frames, stuffed with honeycomb onto foil.
Apply adhesive, then roll on top sheet of foil.
Place Brisk Heat blankets on top, pull VacBag over top, clip to seal.
Start Vac Pump, start Brisk Heat cycle with controllers. ‘bake until done’.
Climbing Drum Test
Climbing Drum test to check adhesion on one sample panel per 100 made (we make small ‘test’ panels)
Completed Wing Panels
Pack 4 per target, 8 per crate with hardware, keels, etc.
Final Steps
Wing panels stacked after assembly, routing of edges, application of wood finish on edges.
Crates stack up for storage.
Packaging compliant with international shipping regulations and requirements.
We can delivery the targets individually packaged at customer’s request.
Assembled Target
Balance Adjustment Keeps target flying straight.
Targets are shipped via flat-bed truck to shipper and freight forwarders
Tow Targets are packaged two (2) targets per crate.
Crates are the following dimensions:
- Length: 16 Ft. (192”)
- Width: 4 Ft. (48”)
- Height: 1 Ft. (12”)
- Total Weight: 650 lbs.
